meet pete - how we got here and why we're staying

for pete's sake, it's all about the partnership

I’m kicking this off with a Pete joke—naturally—to explain why our blog is called Pete. It’s a cautionary tale about what happens when you wing it in a podcast interview before tightening up your brand strategy. Not exactly a client-approved move, but brand strategists really are the cobbler’s kids of the marketing world.

The moment happened on an episode of not a straight line with Peter Daly-Dickson. When Pete asked where folks could learn more about my work, I realized, mid-recording, that I didn’t have a clear answer. I could’ve listed client sites or tiptoed around NDAs, but Pete, being the content strategy legend he is, casually offered: “What about purpleunicorn.agency/peter?”

And just like that, Pete became part of the Purple Unicorn brand strategy.

how it started

I first connected with Peter Daly-Dickson on LinkedIn. He sent me a hilarious cold outreach message, and I don't think I've booked a follow-up call faster.

What happened in that call was pure synergy. Pete is an actor, entrepreneur, and human connection master. He's based in the UK, and the bulk of his career has been in theater. I'm based in the US, and the bulk of my career has been in business. Regardless of how we were shaped differently, we discovered a shared purpose and drive to make business more artful and to give artists more sustainable careers.

As you know, he asked me to be on his podcast. That was the start of a beautiful friendship.

where it's going

Purple Unicorn is built on strong creative partnerships. They're a key part of how we deliver on our promises. He'll continue hanging around these parts, and we'll continue working together to make the world a more communicative place.

Let this be a reminder about what makes a brand strong: if you know what you value and what you want to accomplish, you're more prepared than you think. If you're truly living your brand, even getting flustered on a podcast could lead you to exciting new opportunities in your business.

Keep coming back to see when Pete pops up again. This collab runs little risk of petering out. (Book your discovery call today to find out how many Pete puns you can handle in 60 minutes.)
